Shantou’s Two Projects Win “2017 Guangdong Livable Environment Example Prize”

On January 20, the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Guangdong Province announced the Circular of the List of 2017 Guangdong Livable Environment Example Prize Projects; 26 projects were awarded the honor. Among others, Shantou’s two projects which won the Prize were respectively Gounan Cultural Creative Tourism Village Project and Chenghai District Dongli Town Zhanglin Ancient Port Preservation and Activation Project.

The Circular points out that Zhanglin Ancient Port is located in the northeast of Chenghai District in Shantou City and the estuary of Hanjiang River, known as “East Guangdong’s Pioneer in Foreign Trade”; it is selected into “Guangdong’s Top 10 Cultural and Geographical Coordinates of Maritime Silk Road”, containing profound cultural connotation. The Project promotes the combination of cultural relics preservation with arts and sports, tourism and leisure as well as food and trade. It helps the preservation of the ancient port, improves the surrounding habitat environment, and promotes the spiritual outlook of the villagers. It has remarkable social benefit and economic benefit, as well as important demonstration benefit and popularization significance. The overall planning of Gounan Cultural Creative Tourism Village Project consists of “one belt, two lakes, three parks, and four cultural creative areas”. The Project absorbs, carries forward and inherits Chaoshan local culture, and covers a combination of rich and diverse formats. After completion, the Project will be built into a cultural tourism complex for deep experience, integrating with residential buildings, natural ecology, regional culture, Chaoshan delicacies and artistic creativity.
