With the smooth progress in the Shantou Connection Line of Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway, the Xiamen-Shenzhen trains will drive into the urban area of Shantou by the end of next year. The upgrading and transformation of Shantou Railway Station has drawn a lot of attention from all circles. Smooth progress has been made in the preliminary work for the comprehensive passenger transportation hub of Shantou Railway Station and station building reconstruction project led by the Municipal Transportation Bureau. Currently, a conceptual scheme has been basically formed for the whole area of the comprehensive passenger transportation hub. The bid winner announcement is currently being made for the first phase of the project—its station square interchange center project feasibility study, survey and design. The construction is planned to commence by the end of the year; basic consensus has been reached with the railway company with respect to the preliminary scheme for the station building reconstruction project. The project feasibility study will be carried out soon, and the project is planned to start after the Spring Festival. The two projects are intended to be completed and put into use simultaneously with the Shantou Connection Line of Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway. By then, Shantou Railway Station will become one of the few high-speed rail stations in China which are located in the city center.

　　随着厦深铁路汕头联络线顺利推进，明年底厦深动车将开进汕头市区，汕头火车站升级改造备受各界关注。由市交通局牵头开展的汕头火车站综合客运枢纽以及站房改造工程的前期工作进展顺利，目前综合客运枢纽整个片区基本形成概念性方案，其中首期工程——站前广场换乘中心项目工可及勘察设计正进行中标公示，计划年底前启动建设;站房改造工程初步方案已与铁路方基本达成共识，即将开展项目工可，计划春运后开工。两个项目争取与厦深铁路进汕头联络线同步建成投入使用。届时汕头火车站将成为国内为数不多、位于中心城区的高铁站。
