Shantou is renowned as the "Coastal Zou and Lu" (a title that signifies a land rich in culture). It is a unique place where overseas Chinese culture, traditional culture, maritime culture, food culture, red culture and other cultural elements intersect, blend, and enrich one another. The local opera Chaozhou Opera possesses a unique charm, while the primitive and elegant Chaozhou music is celebrated as the "True Voice of Huaxia". Meanwhile, the Yingge Dance is renowned as the "Chinese Traditional War Dance". Renowned worldwide for their light flavors and exquisite quality, Chaozhou dishes and Chaoshan snacks are incredibly delicious and appealing. Reverently known as the "Chinese Tea Master", Chaoshan Gongfu Tea enjoys global recognition. Stunning Chaoshan arts and crafts, such as ceramics, drawnwork, Chao embroidery and gold lacquered wood carving works, are highly sought after and sold around the world. Shantou is home to 14 items listed as China's national intangible cultural heritage and 51 items recognized as Guangdong provincial intangible cultural heritage.

　　汕头素有“海滨邹鲁”的美誉，华侨文化、传统文化、海洋文化、美食文化、红色文化等在这里碰撞融合、相得益彰。地方戏曲潮剧风韵独特，古朴典雅的潮州音乐被誉为“华夏正声”，英歌舞被称为“中华战舞”；以清淡巧雅驰名于世的潮菜、潮汕小吃香飘四海令人回味；被尊为“中国茶道”的潮汕功夫茶蜚声海内外；巧夺天工的潮汕陶瓷、抽纱、潮绣、金漆木雕等工艺美术品远销世界各地。有国家级非物质文化遗产项目14项，省级非物质文化遗产项目51项。
