The intercity rail communication network project of East Guangdong has been formally included into the outline of the revised and improved 12th Five-year Plan of Guangdong Province.

With the constantly accelerating pace of urbanization and intercity orientation of East Guangdong region, the calls for construction of intercity rail communication are increasing. This year, Zeng Shuqin, deputy to the People＇s Congress of Guangdong Province, once said during the NPC and CPPCC period that the government of Guangdong Province would be recommended to accelerate the study and planning of rail communication project in Chaoshan metropolitan area in the initial stage of the "12th Five-year Plan" period and to study and construct the intercity rail extended from Heyuan or Huizhou to Chaoshan metropolitan area, so as to realize the connection between Chaoshan metropolitan area and PRD. When the Fourth Session of the Eleventh National People＇s Congress of Guangdong Province was closed, in the government report of Guangdong Province, the contents to accelerate the construction of intercity rail communication of East Guangdong has been respectively revised and added according to the suggestions of local People＇s Congress in Shantou and other regions.

　　粤东城际轨道交通网项目已正式列入修改完善后的省十二五规划纲要。
　　随着粤东地区城镇化、同城化步伐的不断加快，对建设城际轨道交通的呼声越来越高。今年两会期间省人大代表曾淑琴曾表示，将建议我省在“十二五”初期加快研究规划潮汕都市区轨道交通项目，并研究建设从河源或惠州延伸到潮汕都市区环线的城际轨道，实现潮汕都市区与珠三角对接。省十一届人大四次会议闭幕时，省政府工作报告就根据汕头等地人大代表的建议，在内容中修改增加了加快建设粤东城际轨道交通等内容。
