Recently, the State Council officially replied in writing and approved that Shantou Hi-tech Zone would be upgraded to a national hi-tech zone, named as Shantou High-tech Industrial Development Zone, which would implement the current national high-tech zone policy.
 

The official reply points out that, after upgrade of Shantou Hi-tech Zone, its planning area is 3 square meters, and its area coverage is within the four boundaries determined by the approval notice of the development zone which was announced by the relevant department of the State Council. Shantou Hi-tech Zone shall, according to the requirements of centralized layout, industrial agglomeration,  intensive use of land, distinctive characteristics, appropriate scale and complete supporting facilities, improve the management system and operation mechanism, gather scientific and technological innovation resources, and strive to become an important carrier for promoting technological progress and enhancing the capability of independent innovation, a powerful engine for driving the adjustment of regional economic structure and the transformation of economic development mode, and a  front position for seizing the commanding heights of the world＇s high-tech industry.

　　日前,国务院批复同意汕头高新区升级为国家高新区,定名为汕头高新技术产业开发区,实行现行国家高新区政策。

　　批复指出,汕头高新区升级后规划面积为3平方公里,区域范围为国务院有关部门公布的开发区审核公告确定的四至范围。汕头高新区要按照布局集中、产业集聚、用地集约、特色鲜明、规模适度、配套完善的要求,完善管理体制和运行机制,集聚科技创新资源,努力成为促进技术进步和增强自主创新能力的重要载体,成为带动区域经济结构调整和经济发展方式转变的强大引擎,成为抢占世界高新技术产业制高点的前沿阵地。
