On the morning of March 16, the largest port public infrastructure project in the history of Shantou Port –Guang＇ao Harbor Dyke Project was formally kicked off. This is a major movement of Shantou city to improve the port structure and the port level, realize the strategic transformation of the port functions, and speed up the construction of a deepwater port of 1 billion tons.

Guang＇ao Harbor is a key project of harbor on the open waters that Shantou attaches great importance to. In the short-term and medium-term plan, the land-base area of the Harbor is 13.6 square kilometers, and the annual carrying capacity is 130 million tons and 8 million TEUs. Guang＇ao Harbor Dyke Project is planned in key projects of the Ministry of Transport in the transition between the "Eleventh Five-year Plan Period" and the "Twelfth Five-year Plan Period", and is one of "new ten projects" in Guangdong Province. The Project comprises the western dyke and the external eastern dyke, with a total investment of 1.628 billion yuan. The Project will lay a solid foundation for the integrated development and construction of Guang＇ao Harbor, and provide effective shield for more than 30 berths.

　　3月16日上午，汕头港历史上规模最大的港口公共基础设施项目——广澳港区防波堤工程正式开工建设。这是我市改善港口结构，提高港口等级，实现港口功能战略转移，加快打造亿吨深水大港的重大举措。
　　广澳港区是我市重点发展的外海港区，近、中期规划港区陆域面积13.6平方公里，年通过能力1.3亿吨和800万标箱。广澳港区防波堤工程是交通运输部“十一五”跨“十二五”重点项目，是广东省“新十项工程项目”之一，项目包括西防波堤和外东防波堤，工程总投资约16.28亿元。防波堤项目的建设，将为广澳港区的全面开发建设创造基础性条件，为30多个泊位提供有效掩护。
