On the afternoon of August 16, Shantou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government held the Launching Ceremony of the Environment Improvement Project of the Lianjiang River in Chaoyang District and Chaonan District, marking that the environmental protection infrastructure project of the Lianjiang River with a total investment of about RMB 12.7 billion is constructed in full swing.

This time 11 sewage treatment projects and their supporting pipe networks were launched in a centralized way. Among others, the six projects in Chaoyang District include: the phase II project of Chaoyang District sewage treatment plant and its supporting pipe networks, the phase II projects of three sewage treatment plants in Gu Rao, Guiyu and Tongmeng and their supporting pipe networks, the branch II and III projects of Heping sewage treatment plant and their supporting pipe networks, and the sewage treatment plant of Chaoyang District integrated processing center for textile printing and dyeing environmental protection and its supporting pipe networks, with a total project investment of RMB 6.627 billion. The five projects in Chaonan District include: the phase III project of Xiashan sewage treatment plant and its supporting pipe networks, the phase II projects of three sewage treatment plants Chendian, Longtian, Simapu and their supporting pipe networks, and the expansion of pipe networks of Liangying sewage treatment plant, with a total project investment of RMB 6.115 billion. The above projects are expected to be basically completed by the end of June next year. By then, new pipe networks of 730.8 kilometers will be added; the daily sewage treatment capacity of 468,000 tons will be added; the rate of domestic sewage collection will reach 80％, and will reach 90％ by the end of next year, so as to intercept and control pollution at its sources, minimize pollution as far as possible, and make victory in the comprehensive improvement of the Lianjiang River.

　　8月16日下午，市委、市政府在潮阳区、潮南区举行练江整治环保工程启动仪式，标志着总投资约127亿元的练江环保基础设施项目全面铺开建设。
　　此次集中启动11个污水处理项目及其配套管网。其中潮阳区6个项目分别是：潮阳区污水处理厂二期项目及配套管网，谷饶、贵屿、铜盂3座污水处理厂二期项目及配套管网，和平污水处理厂二厂、三厂及配套管网，潮阳区纺织印染环保综合处理中心污水处理厂及配套管网，项目总投资66.27亿元;潮南区5个项目分别是：峡山污水处理厂三期污水处理厂及配套管网，陈店、陇田、司马浦等3座污水处理厂二期污水处理厂及配套管网，两英污水处理厂扩增管网，项目总投资61.15亿元。以上项目预计明年6月底前基本建成，届时可新增配套管网730.8公里，新增日处理污水46.8万吨，实现生活污水收集率达80％，明年底达90％以上，从源头上截污治污，最大限度减少污染，坚决打赢练江综合整治翻身战。
