On the morning of July 18, the first 100,000-ton container terminal of the Shantou Port Guang'ao Port Area Phase II Project, a key construction project of Guangdong Province and Shantou City, was built up and put into trial operation, which is also the first 100,000-ton professional container terminal launched in eastern Guangdong.
  
The Guang'ao Port Area Phase II Project has two 100,000-ton berths and one 10,000-ton container berth, with an annual design capacity of 1.25 million TEUs. The trial operation of the 100,000-ton container terminal in the Guang'ao Port Area improves the service capacity of Shantou Port for large liners and lays a solid foundation for the opening of direct ocean liners, and is a key step to make Shantou Port become a central port in eastern Guangdong. As the two 100,000-ton container berths of the Guang'ao Port Area Phase II Project have been put into operation, and the start-up works, Phase I and Phase II projects after transformation have entered into integrated operation, the comprehensive passing capacity of the Guang'ao Port Area will usher in leapfrog upgrade. The terminal can be berthed by large container ships with a capacity of more than 100,000 tons operating on American, Middle East and European routes to meet the needs of trunk liners for operation ship type and berthing timeliness. Furthermore, with the construction of three container berths in the Guang'ao Port Area Phase III Project, the port will definitely open more international shipping routes to-and-from Europe, America, Southeast Asia and Africa, and open domestic coastal port routes and increase their density. So, the Guang'ao Port Area is expected to soon become a professional container port with the highest grade, the most advanced facilities and the most complete functions in the ports of eastern Guangdong.

汕头港广澳港区10万吨级集装箱码头试运营

7月18日上午，广东省、汕头市重点建设项目汕头港广澳港区二期工程首个10万吨级集装箱码头建成投入试运营，这也是粤东地区首个启用的10万吨级专业集装箱码头。

广澳港区二期工程拥有两个10万吨级和一个1万吨级集装箱泊位，年设计通过能力为125万标箱。广澳港区10万吨级集装箱码头的试运营，提升了汕头港对大型班轮的服务能力，为开通远洋直航班轮奠定了坚实的基础，为使汕头港成为粤东地区中心港口迈出了关键一步。随着广澳港区二期工程2个10万吨级集装箱泊位投入运营，以及改造后的起步工程、一期、二期工程一体化运作，广澳港区综合通过能力将迎来跨越性的升级。码头可停靠运营于美洲航线、中东航线、欧洲航线的10万吨级以上的大型集装箱船舶，满足干线班轮运营船型和靠泊时效性的需求。而随着广澳港区三期工程3个集装箱泊位的建设，这里将开辟更多的欧美、东南亚、非洲等国际航线，开通和加密国内沿海港口航线，广澳港区成为粤东地区码头等级最高、设施最先进、功能最齐全的专业集装箱港口指日可待。
