On the morning of February 2 , the ground-breaking ceremony for Shantou Gulf Tunnel and the roof capping ceremony for the engineering structure of Chaoshan History and Culture Expo Center were hosted respectively at the CITIC Binhai New Town worksite and the south bank of the gulf tunnel. They are both landmark projects in the construction of China (Shantou) Overseas Chinese Economic & Cultural Cooperation Experiment Zone.

Shantou Gulf Tunnel and Chaoshan History and Culture Expo Center are both key projects for CITIC Binhai New Town and constitute a major part in the Overseas Chinese Economic & Cultural Cooperation Experiment Zone. Shantou Gulf Tunnel is an important channel to connect the south and north banks and the completion of the project will facilitate the expansion to the south and upgrading of the downtown area of Shantou, making new rooms for Shantou＇s development. The Chaoshan History and Culture Expo Center with a total construction area over 50,000sqm is a comprehensive cultural landmark for the exposition of Chaoshan history and culture. Upon completion, it will provide such functions as collection, exhibition, research, exchange, education, recreation and cultural services, and will greatly improve Shantou＇s recognition and affinity as the Capital of Teochow People.

　　2月2日上午，汕头海湾隧道启动暨潮汕历史文化博览中心工程结构封顶仪式同时在中信滨海新城工地现场和海湾隧道南岸举行，这也是中国(汕头)华侨经济文化合作试验区建设的标志性工程。
　　汕头海湾隧道和潮汕历史博览中心是中信滨海新城项目的重点工程，也是华侨试验区的重要组成部分，其中汕头海湾隧道是联系汕头南北两岸的重要通道，建成通车后，将迅速实现汕头主城区的南扩和升级，为汕头城市发展提供新的发展空间;潮汕历史文化博览中心总建筑面积逾5万平方米，全面展示潮汕历史、文化的综合性文化博览地标性建筑，项目建成后，将发挥集收藏、展示、研究、交流、教育、休闲、文化服务为一体的功能，大力提升汕头作为潮人之都的认同感和凝聚力。
