Shantou has become one of the Top 10 Brand Economic Cities in China. At the closing ceremony of the 2-day China Independent Innovation Forum and China Brand Economic City Summit 2005 held on the afternoon of December 6, 2005, Shantou was awarded the title of "Brand Economic City in China".
