The World's First 160kV Superconducting DC Limiter Entered Nan'ao of Shantou
Date: 2020-05-27      Source: Shantou Daily

Recently, a large ship slowly docked at the Qianjiang Wharf in Nan'ao, Shantou. The staff lifted and "unloaded" the equipment weighing 35 tons and resembling a "giant capsule" to the Nan’ao Jinniu Converter Station. This marks the entry of the world's first 160kV superconducting DC limiter into the installation and application phase.

This "giant capsule" is the fruit of the national key R&D plan led by Guangdong Power Grid Co., Ltd. of China Southern Power Grid—the world's first 160kV superconducting DC limiter. The Company started the "Key Technology Research on Superconducting DC Limiter" project in 2017, and has completed a series of studies on basic theories and key technologies, including basic theoretical research, high-temperature superconducting material research, superconducting DC limiter design and manufacturing, and other topics. The project is scheduled to be completed for installation and acceptance in June, and system joint commissioning in July. The trial operation of grid connection for the new members of the world power system will soon be realized.
