On December 24, the State Council approved the establishment of a comprehensive cross-border e-commerce pilot zone in 24 cities including Shijiazhuang and Shantou.
In accordance with the ideas of the approval document, Shantou will formulate a specific implementation plan and report it to the provincial government. Guided by the Internet Plus and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Shantou will fully draw on the experience of the development of the China (Hangzhou) Cross-Border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone, and cultivate a cross-border e-commerce ecological environment featuring innovative and flexible mechanisms, radiation inside and outside the channel, convenient investment cooperation, and controllable security risks. At the same time, Shantou will explore the development model of cross-border e-commerce with the characteristics of "independent brands, cross-border e-commerce, integration of districts and ports, and global business networks" to form a new momentum for Shantou's foreign trade and replicate successful practices in other parts of China. In this way, Shantou will become a cross-border e-commerce center in eastern Guangdong, southwest Fujian and southeast Jiangxi.
