Shantou is racing to make various preparations before the main structure construction of the much anticipated reconstruction project of Shantou People's Stadium dedicated to the 3rd Asian Youth Games.After the completion of the reconstruction work, Shantou People's Stadium will meet the requirements of holding of Asian Youth Games, and provide benefits for hosting large-scale events and comprehensive social and cultural activities in the future. Besides, it will also provide citizens with optimal spaces for fitness activities.

The reconstruction project consists of the Shantou People's Stadium (track-and-field ground), Shantou People's Stadium (gymnasium), training gym, diving memorial gym, and adjacent land.Among them, the track-and-field ground covers a total area of nearly 20,000 square meters, with newly-built track-and-field ground (including the football pitch), which is up to the standard of holding football matches in the Asian Youth Games.The gymnasium covers an area of nearly 5,000 square meters, whose main structure is a single-storey building design with five floors locally and 3,400 seats.Upon the completion of the reconstruction project, the first-level arena will not only be able to meet the needs of holding various such events as martial arts, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, etc., but also meet the needs of holding large-scale exhibitions, assemblies and variety shows.

汕头市人民体育场升级改造迎接亚青会

        备受关注的第三届亚青会汕头市人民体育场改造工程正紧锣密鼓进行主体施工前的各项准备工作。升级改造后，将满足亚青会赛事要求，并为日后承办各项大型赛事和社会综合性文艺活动提供有利条件，也为市民提供优良的全民健身活动场所。

        改造工程由汕头市人民体育场（田径场）、汕头市人民体育场（体育馆）、训练馆及跳水纪念馆和体育场周边用地相邻组成。其中，田径场总占地面积近2万平方米，主要新建田径场（含足球场），满足亚青足球比赛要求。体育馆占地面积近5000平方米，主体结构为单层建筑，局部五层，观众座位3400席。届时首层比赛场可满足武术、篮球、排球、羽毛球、乒乓球等多种项目的比赛需要，同时还可满足大型展览、大型集会和大型歌舞演出的需要。
