Recently, the Department of Transportation of Guangdong Province officially issued the "Guangdong Expressway Network Plan (2020-2035)". By 2035, as stated in the Plan, Guangdong will have built expressways with a total mileage of about 15,000 kilometers, with main framework characterized by "Twelve Vertical, Eight Horizontal, Two Ring-shaped and Sixteen Radial Expressways". According to the Plan, 3 new expressways in Shantou will be added to promote the development of Metropolitan Area of Shantou, Chaozhou and Jieyang and support Shantou's building of a provincial sub-center city.

汕头将新增3条通道促汕潮揭都市圈发展

  日前，广东省交通运输厅正式印发《广东省高速公路网规划（2020-2035年）》。规划到2035年，广东建成总里程约15000公里的高速公路，布局以“十二纵八横两环十六射”为主骨架。其中，规划汕头新増3条通道，促进汕潮揭都市圈发展，支撑汕头建设省域副中心城市。
