To promote the construction of the comprehensive coastal demonstration zone and beautiful bays, our city has initiated the Ecological Restoration Project of Mangrove Forest in Waisha River Mouth of the East Coast New Town (Phase I of the Mangrove Park Project), planting 338,000 trees of mangrove forest, such as aegiceras corniculatum, kandelia candel, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, and taxodium distichum. The project is located on the west bank of the Waisha River Mouth in the East Coast New Town, with Zhongsha Bridge in the north, East Coast Bridge in the south, Waisha River in the east, and the flood control levee in the Xinxi Area in the west. The working area is about 31 hectares. 60% of the total work amount of the project has been completed. The project is expected to be completed by the end of November, and the subsequent management and maintenance will be carried out later.
The implementation of the Phase I of the Mangrove Park Project gives a strict protection of the existing mangroves and ecologically restored mangroves in the park, and aims to further enrich the biodiversity of the area and build a complete ecological chain and network by expanding the number and area of restored wetland vegetation and biological habitats. At the same time, it is planned to make full use of the function of wetlands naturally degrading pollution to optimize the landscape water consumption at the mangrove park through water purification engineering.
