According to the Notice of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council on Issuing the List of Doctoral and Master's Degree Authorization Units and Degree Authorization Centers Reviewed and Added in 2020, Shantou University was approved to add 3 doctoral degree programs of first-class disciplines and 3 master's degree programs of first-class disciplines and 2 master's degree programs of professional disciplines. Among them, marine science, civil engineering, and basic medicine were added as the doctoral degree programs of first-class disciplines; applied economics, civil engineering, and public management were added as the master’s degree programs of first-class disciplines; translation, biology and medicine were added as the master's degree programs of professional disciplines.

Up to now, Shantou University has 6 doctoral degree programs of first-class disciplines, 1 doctoral degree program of second disciplines, 18 master’s degree programs of first-class disciplines, 9 master’s degree programs of second disciplines, and 17 master's degree programs of professional disciplines. The coverage of disciplines has been further expanded, and the ability of cultivating high-level talents has been greatly enhanced.

　　汕头大学新增3个博士学位点和5个硕士学位点

　　根据国务院学位委员会《关于下达2020年审核增列的博士、硕士学位授予单位及其学位授权点名单的通知》，汕头大学获批新增3个一级学科博士学位授权点、3个一级学科硕士学位授权点和2个专业学科硕士点。其中，海洋科学、土木工程、基础医学获增一级学科博士学位授权点；应用经济学、土木工程、公共管理获增一级学科硕士学位授权点；翻译、生物与医药获增专业学科硕士点。

　　截至目前，汕头大学共有一级学科博士学位授权点6个、二级学科博士学位授权点1个、一级学科硕士学位授权点18个、二级学科硕士学位授权点9个,专业学科硕士点17个，学科覆盖面进一步拓宽，学校高层次人才培养能力大大增强。
