The Chinese Olympic Committee announced on September 8 that due to the current global COVID-19 pandemic, the Olympic Council of Asia, the Chinese Olympic Committee and the Organizing Committee of the Third Asian Youth Games jointly decided to postpone the Third Asian Youth Games originally scheduled from November 20 to 28, 2021 in Shantou City, Guangdong Province to December 20 to 28, 2022.The name "The Third Asian Youth Games in 2021" and the logo of the Games remain unchanged.

The Chinese Olympic Committee stated that the decision was made after in-depth deliberations among the three parties, aimed at safeguarding the common interests of all relevant country/regional Olympic committees and ensuring the safety and health of athletes and all participants. The Executive Committee of Shantou Asian Youth Games stated that it would continue to make every effort to prepare for the Asian Youth Games in accordance with the requirements of hosting the Games in “simple, safe and wonderful” manners.

　　汕头亚青会延期至2022年12月举行

　　中国奥委会9月8日发布消息，受当前全球新冠疫情影响，亚奥理事会、中国奥委会和第三届亚青会组委会共同做出决定，将原定于2021年11月20日至28日在广东汕头举行的第三届亚青会推迟至2022年12月20日至28日举行。运动会名称“2021年第三届亚洲青年运动会”和运动会标识保持不变。

　　中国奥委会表示，该决定经三方深入商议后做出，旨在维护所有相关国家/地区奥委会的共同利益，并确保运动员和所有参赛人员的安全和健康。亚青会汕头市执委会表示，将按照“简约、安全、精彩”的办赛要求，继续全力以赴做好亚青会各项筹备工作。
