On December 17, the construction of Eastern Guangdong Intercity Railway was officially started, for the purpose of building a "30-minute commuting circle" in the aera of Shantou, Chaozhou and Jieyang.

Eastern Guangdong Intercity Railway includes the following routes: Shantou - Chaoshan Airport, Chaoshan Airport - Jieyang South Railway Station, Chaoshan Airport - Chaozhou East Railway Station, Chaozhou East Railway Station - Shantou, and Jieyang South Railway Station to Jieyang Railway Station, and it will be laid mainly in the forms of elevated and underground lines. The total length of the lines is 140 kilometers, and 30 new train stations (including 11 underground stations, 17 elevated stations and 2 ground stations) will be built. In addition, the conditions for building a train station in Hanjiang New Town are reserved. The Project adopts the transportation organization model of "small grouping, high frequency and passenger transport service". The passengers shall wait for the train on the platform, and the train shall not stop for a long time (only for passengers drop-off/pick-up), for the purpose of reducing the passengers’ waiting time and improving their travel efficiency. A non-seat ticket system will be adopted, and “One-Card-Pass” will be promoted for both the Project and urban public transport. A combined operating model (i.e. the train shall stop at central railway junctions and/or all stations) will be adopted, and multiple train service routes, such as trains for loop lines and point-to-point trains for urban centers, will be operated, to better meet the needs of multiple passenger flows.

　　粤东城际铁路开工

　　12月17日，粤东城际铁路正式开工建设，将构建汕潮揭“30分钟通勤圈”。

　　粤东城际铁路包括汕头至潮汕机场段、潮汕机场至揭阳南站段、潮汕机场至潮州东站段、潮州东站段至汕头段、揭阳南站至揭阳站段，主要采用高架和地下线路敷设形式。线路总长140公里，新建车站30座，其中地下站11座、高架站17座、地面站2座，另预留韩江新城设站条件。项目采用“小编组、高频次、公交化”的运输组织模式，站台候车、即停即走，减少旅客候车时间，提高出行效率；采用非座席制的票制，推动项目与城市公共交通实现“一卡通”；采用大站停和站站停相结合的开行方式，开行环线车、城市中心点对点等多种列车交路，更好满足多种客流需求。
