On May 6, the Executive Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia held a meeting and decided to cancel the third Asian Youth Games, which was originally scheduled to be held in Shantou, China from December 20 to 28 this year.
This Asian Youth Games was postponed once due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Taking into account the current international situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in view of that the time and location of the next Asian Youth Games have been determined, after in-depth discussions with the Chinese Olympic Committee and the Organizing Committee of Shantou Asian Youth Games, the Executive Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia has made the above decision.
In the statement, the Olympic Council of Asia fully affirmed the excellent and effective work Shantou has done to organize the Asian Youth Games. The statement expressed the belief that it would make a positive contribution to promoting the development of Shantou City in all respects and the dissemination and promotion of the Olympic spirit in Asia.

受疫情影响亚奥理事会决定取消第三届亚洲青年运动会
5月6日,亚奥理事会执委会召开会议,决定取消原定于今年12月20日至28日在中国汕头举行的第三届亚洲青年运动会。
本届亚青会受疫情影响曾延期一次。考虑到当前国际疫情形势,且下届亚青会已确定举办时间和地点,经与中国奥委会、汕头亚青会组委会深入商议,亚奥理事会执委会作出上述决定。
亚奥理事会在声明中充分肯定汕头为筹办本届亚青会所做的卓有成效工作。声明表示,相信这为推动当地城市各方面发展和推动奥林匹克精神在亚洲的传播和弘扬作出积极贡献。
