After more than a year of intense efforts in construction, the renovation, expansion and landscape improvement project of Shantou People's Square has been basically completed and opened to the public. After the renovation and improvement, the area of People's Square has increased from the original 6.3 hectares to 9.6 hectares, which not only increases the green space in the western area, but also further enhances the service functions of the public green space in the western area, providing citizens with more space for activities and leisure. 

During the renovation of the People's Square, on the basis of preserving the original square site and optimizing the use space of the original square as much as possible, the overall design was conducted with the consideration of the sites of the Workers' Cultural Palace and the original 7 Days Inn, which took Tongyi Road and Haibin Road as the boundaries and formed three main activity spaces including east square, west square and sea-viewing dock, to meet the different needs of the citizens.

　　汕头人民广场改扩建及景观提升工作基本完成

　　经过一年多的紧张施工，近日汕头人民广场改扩建及景观提升工程基本完工，向市民开放。改造提升后，人民广场面积由原来的6.3公顷增加至9.6公顷，不仅增加西片区绿地面积，也进一步提升西片区公共绿地的服务功能，给市民提供更多的活动休闲空间。

　　人民广场改造过程中，在尽可能保留原广场场地、优化原广场使用空间的基础上，结合工人文化宫及原七天酒店用地进行统筹设计，以同益路及海滨路为界，形成东广场、西广场及观海码头三个主要活动空间，满足不同的市民需求。
