Shantou attaches great importance to the development of the new material industry and pools resources elements to help transform and upgrade the industry. After years of fostering, the new material industry has become a pillar industry with basic advantages, distinctive characteristics and high growth rates in Shantou. In 2021, Shantou's output value of new materials industrial enterprises above the designated size reached RMB 49.18 billion, with 280 enterprises above the designated size, including 103 enterprises above the size of RMB 100 million and 5 enterprises above the size of RMB 1 billion, mainly in the rubber and plastic products industry, chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing, and some enterprises have already taken the leading positions in China.

In addition, Shantou has high-end talent carriers and scientific research platforms, including Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Guangdong Laboratory, Shantou University, and Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. In particular, the provincial laboratory's "new chemical engineering" comprehensive research platform construction and high-end cutting-edge scientific research infrastructure have attracted and gathered superior forces in the chemical and chemical fields at home and abroad.

　　汕头集中资源要素做大做强新材料产业

　　我市高度重视发展新材料产业，集中资源要素助力产业转型升级。经过多年培育，新材料产业已成为我市具有基础优势、有特色、增速高的支柱产业。2021年，全市新材料规上产值491.8亿元，规上企业280家，其中，亿元以上企业103家，10亿元企业5家，主要集中在橡胶和塑料制品业、化学原料和化学制品制造业，部分企业已走在全国领先位次。

　　同时，我市拥有化学与精细化工广东省实验室、汕头大学、广东以色列理工学院等高端人才载体和科研平台，特别是省实验室的“新化工”综合研究平台建设和高端前沿科研基础设施，吸引凝聚了国内外化学化工领域优势力量。
