On the morning of November 29, the 2024 China Shantou Fresh Corn Conference kicked off. During the event, 169 fresh corn varieties from China’s Fresh Corn Circulation industry Union as well as from over 50 research institutions, operating enterprises, and industry representatives across China were showcased in a centralized manner. Experts and scholars conducted live appraisal and selected 15 high-quality varieties of sweet corn, glutinous corn, and sweet glutinous corn. These varieties will be promoted and demonstrated throughout the whole industry chain, including seedling cultivation, planting, processing, distribution, and trade, for the purpose of enabling fresh corn to embark on a "new track" of high-quality agricultural development.

Shantou is an important production base of fresh corn in China. Currently, the planting area of Shantou’s fresh corn is 35,700 mu [2,380 hectares], with an annual total output of 17,300 tons.

2024年中国汕头鲜食玉米大会开幕

　　11月29日上午，2024年中国汕头鲜食玉米大会开幕。活动中，来自中国鲜食玉米流通行业联盟和全国各地50多家科研机构、经营企业、行业代表的169个鲜食玉米品种进行集中展示。专家学者现场评比，选出15个甜玉米、糯玉米、甜糯玉米优质品种，在培苗、种植、加工、流通、贸易等全产业链领域推广示范，让鲜食玉米走上农业高质量发展的“新赛道”。

　　汕头属于全国鲜食玉米重要生产基地。目前鲜食玉米种植面积3.57万亩，年总产量1.73万吨。
