On the afternoon of February 17, Ms. Kijima Yoshiko, Consul General of Japan in Guangzhou, and her delegation visited Shantou, engaging in in-depth discussions with local officials to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, culture, and more.

At the discussion meeting, Mayor Chen Tao expressed optimism about the promising future of cooperation between Shantou and Japan, highlighting its potential for significant achievements. He expressed hope that the Consulate General of Japan in Guangzhou would maintain its longstanding support for Shantou’s growth and development, visit Shantou more frequently, and foster deeper friendship and mutual trust, while broadening collaborative efforts to achieve mutual benefit, win-win outcomes and common development. Ms. Kijima Yoshiko highlighted the robust economic, trade, and cultural ties between Japan and Shantou, expressing her desire for Shantou to keep supporting and aiding Japanese-funded businesses in their growth. She emphasized that the Consulate General of Japan in Guangzhou would leverage its position as a connector, proactively creating opportunities for collaboration and exchange. This would deepen communication and interaction between Shantou and Japan, encourage mutual learning, enhance cooperation, and promote mutually beneficial outcomes, ultimately driving faster development for both sides.
