On October 17, the Chaoshan Cuisine Master Training Program for Overseas Chinese, themed “Savor Shantou, Heritage Beyond Borders”, kicked off at Guangdong Yuedong Technician Institute. Twenty-four representatives from overseas Chinese associations and the culinary industry—hailing from 12 countries across five continents—gathered in Shantou for a nine-day in-depth study of Chaoshan culinary culture.
The event was co-organized by the Shantou Municipal Bureau of Overseas Chinese Affairs, the Shantou Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and Guangdong Yuedong Technician Institute, with top Chaoshan cuisine masters specially invited to teach the courses. The program includes hands-on training in traditional Chaoshan cuisine, Chaoshan snacks, Chaoshan braised delicacies, and the Gongfu tea art. It also features study tours to the historic Port-Opening Area of Shantou’s Small Park and Haojiang District. Through these experiences, the program aims to enhance the professional skills and cultural literacy of overseas Chinese engaged in the catering industry, further unite the hearts and strengths of overseas Chinese, and help Chaoshan culinary culture gain global popularity.
