On the morning of November 28, Wen Zhanbin, Secretary of the CPC Shantou Municipal Committee, met with a delegation led by Ng Chee Seong, President of the Federated Teochew Associations of Malaysia (FTAM). The delegation were in Shantou to attend the 2025 China Digital Economy Innovation and Development Conference. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on tapping the potential of overseas Chinese in the new era, deepening economic, trade and cultural exchanges and cooperation, and expanding new areas of the digital industry.
During the meeting, Wen Zhanbin hoped that the FTAM would continue, as always, to give full play to its role as a bridge, further strengthening practical cooperation with Shantou in areas such as industrial distribution, economic and trade cooperation, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges. He encouraged the FTAM to guide more overseas Chinese of Chaoshan descent to return to their hometown Shantou to conduct inspections and make investments, so they can share in development opportunities and help Shantou accelerate its drive toward modernization. Ng Chee Seong said that the FTAM would continue to capitalize on its abundant resources and wide-ranging connections, actively uniting efforts across all sectors—including overseas Chinese of Chaoshan descent in Malaysia; and that it would give full play to its role as a bridge to help optimize the supply chains in China, support Chinese enterprises in expanding into international markets, promote broader cooperation and joint development between Malaysia and Shantou, and channel more overseas Chinese capital and wisdom into the development of their hometown Shantou.
