Recently, Lan Hongchun, a director of Chaoyang origin from Chaoyang District, Shantou, returned to his hometown to hold a premiere for his first global Chaozhou cuisine documentary titled Flavors of Teochew from the Four Seas, for which he served as the chief director.
Meticulously produced over several years, the documentary uses the migration trajectories of Chaoshan people around the world as its narrative thread, portraying food as a vibrant cultural medium to vividly present the whole process of how Chaoshan cuisine has taken root, grown, and evolved in foreign lands. Unlike traditional food documentaries, the Flavors of Teochew from the Four Seas not only focuses on the cuisine itself but also uses family restaurants as a vehicle to tell the stories of love and bonds of more than 50 Chaoshan families around the world. From a unique perspective, the documentary documents the global inheritance and development of Chaoshan cuisine, highlighting the sincere devotion of overseas Chaoshan people to their hometown culture and allowing more people to understand the charm and vitality of Chaoshan culture.
