
Recently, the 12-episode cultural documentary titled Historical Context of Teochew Cuisine, co-produced by the Shantou Teochew People and Cuisine Research Institute and the Shantou Media Convergence Group, was simultaneously broadcast on Shantou TV and WeChat Channel. As the first cultural documentary to systematically chronicle the development history of Teochew cuisine in Shantou and even the three cities of Chaoshan, the documentary quickly garnered enthusiastic reactions from audiences both at home and abroad following its broadcast during the Spring Festival.
From the unique perspective of Chief Researcher Zhong Chengquan, the documentary explores the three cities of Chaoshan and their tight-knit chef communities. Narrated in the authentic Chaoshan dialect, the documentary meticulously traces the century-old historical context of Teochew cuisine in Shantou, unearthing the cultural stories and culinary philosophies behind the inheritance of this gastronomic heritage.
