From March 15 to 17, a delegation of diplomatic envoys from Pacific Island countries and Caribbean states stationed in China visited Shantou to explore opportunities for exchange and cooperation. On the afternoon of March 15, the delegation held a symposium with Shantou officials to discuss strengthening cooperation in areas such as agriculture, new energy, and cultural and humanistic development, while renewing friendships and charting a course for common development. The delegation included diplomatic envoys from 11 countries: Barbados, the Bahamas, Fiji, Guyana, Jamaica, Micronesia, Nauru, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Suriname, and Tonga.

Wen Zhanbin, Secretary of the CPC Shantou Municipal Committee, extended a warm welcome to the visiting envoys and guests. He hoped that the diplomatic envoys would champion Shantou, using this visit as an opportunity to foster extensive cooperation and achieve fruitful results. He highlighted key areas for collaboration, including advancing the Belt and Road Initiative, strengthening people-to-people exchanges, and expanding economic and trade ties, all working toward a bright future of mutual benefit and common development. Tauaika Uta'atu, Tonga's Ambassador to China and head of the delegation of diplomatic envoys from Pacific Island countries and Caribbean states stationed in China, praised Shantou's remarkable economic and social development. He noted the broad prospects for cooperation in fields like new energy and agriculture and said he looked forward to further strengthening economic, trade and people-to-people exchanges with Shantou to achieve mutual progress.

太平洋岛国、加勒比国家驻华使节代表团莅汕考察

　　3月15日至17日，太平洋岛国、加勒比国家驻华使节代表团一行莅汕考察，探讨交流合作机会。3月15日下午，代表团与我市就加强农业、新能源、人文等领域合作进行座谈交流，共叙友谊，共谋发展。此次共有巴巴多斯、巴哈马、斐济、圭亚那、牙买加、密克罗尼西亚、瑙鲁、萨摩亚、所罗门群岛、苏里南、汤加等11国驻华使节访汕。

　　市委书记温湛滨向远道而来的使节和嘉宾表示诚挚欢迎，希望各位驻华使节进一步关注汕头、宣传汕头，并以此次来访为契机，推动双方在共建“一带一路”、人文交流和经贸往来等领域广泛合作、结出硕果，携手共创互利共赢的美好明天。汤加驻华大使、太平洋岛国驻华使团长陶阿伊卡·乌塔阿图表示，汕头经济社会发展成就令人瞩目，双方在新能源、农业等领域具有广阔的合作前景，期待进一步加强与汕头的人文交流和经贸往来，实现共同进步。
