May 18 this year marked the 80th International Museum Day. Under the theme "Museums Uniting a Divided World", Shantou Museum launched two major exhibitions and seven major activities.
On the morning of May 17, Shantou Museum, in collaboration with the Guangdong Cultural Relics Appraisal Station, hosted the "South Guangdong Authenticity Appraisal Public Welfare Tour" event. Several senior cultural relics experts provided on-site "consultations" to authenticate folk collections and determine their ages. Concurrently, they educated the public about the laws and regulations on cultural relic protection to guide the public in rational collecting. Inside the Museum, visitors immersively experienced the role of a "Qiaopi letter writer" through the activity of "Expressing Emotions through Qiaopi (Correspondence and Remittance Documents from Overseas Chinese)". In addition, the Museum debuted new exhibitions such as the Song Dynasty Chaozhou Porcelain Tales — Archaeological Achievements Exhibition of the Bijia Mountain Chaozhou Kiln Site, complemented by academic lectures, career exploration activities, bead crafting studios, and online science popularization activities. On May 18, the Museum was open as usual. Many citizens visited the Museum to broaden their horizons through the authenticity appraisal services, feel the concern and care within the ink fragrance of Qiaopi, and jointly embark a cultural journey connecting history and the future.
