Recently, foreign students in Shantou from countries such as Thailand, Turkmenistan, and Russia visited the Shantou Museum of Qiaopi (Correspondence and Remittance Documents from Overseas Chinese). They immersively explored the historical legacy of Qiaopi, read century-old family letters, and even tried reading the contents of Qiaopi in the Chaoshan dialect. Through these family letters on paper, they experienced the culture of trustworthiness and righteousness of the hometown of overseas Chinese, as well as deep patriotic sentiment, feeling the warmth and power that transcend national borders.
At the scene, the interpreter gave a detailed introduction to the foreign students about the unique history of Qiaopi as a letter-plus-remittance system used by overseas Chinese to send money home together with personal messages, and told the inspiring stories of the older generation of Chaoshan overseas Chinese who traveled far away overseas to make a living, sent letters and remitted money across oceans, and always kept their homeland and relatives in their hearts. The yellowed Qiaopi letters, with lines filled with the spiritual core of honesty, promise-keeping, ancestral remembrance, and homesickness, drew continuous admiration from the foreign students.
