During this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, Shantou Railway Station handled 897,000 person-times of arrival and departure passengers, a year-on-year increase of 25%. Behind these numbers lie the growing passenger flow pressure of the Shantou Railway Station and the practical need for hub upgrading. Currently, the construction of the station’s Phase II project is being accelerated, with the main structure being fully rolled out. Upon completion of Phase II, the Eastern Guangdong Intercity Railway will be officially connected to the Shantou Railway Station, achieving seamless transfer between the intercity railway and high-speed railways within the station for citizens, and turning the "half-hour commuting circle" connecting Shantou, Chaozhou and Jieyang into a reality.

The Phase II project mainly involves the demolition, reconstruction and expansion of the existing west station building, and the planning of functional areas such as a waiting hall, a hotel, and courtyards. Upon completion, it will form a whole with the operational east station building. In the future, the Shantou Railway Station will have a total building area of 100,000 square meters, 11 platforms, and 24 tracks, making it the largest railway hub in eastern, western and northern Guangdong.

汕头站二期项目主体结构全面铺开

　　今年中秋、国庆期间，汕头站到发旅客89.7万人次，同比增长25%。数字背后，是汕头站持续攀升的客流压力，也是枢纽升级的现实需求。目前，汕头站二期项目加速推进，主体结构全面铺开。二期建成后，粤东城际铁路将正式接入汕头站，市民可在站内实现“城际铁路+高速铁路”无缝换乘，汕潮揭“半小时通勤圈”将变成现实。

　　汕头站二期项目主要对既有西站房进行拆除并改扩建，规划有候车厅、酒店、庭院等功能区间，建成后将与已启用的东站房构成整体。未来，汕头站站房规模将达到10万平方米，站台规模11台24线，成为粤东西北规模最大铁路枢纽。
