On April 9, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of the Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) (in preparation), a cooperation project between Shantou University and Technion, a world famous Israeli university of technologies.

The Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) (in preparation) is an incorporated Sino-foreign educational institute on the east and south of the Shantou University campus on Daxue Road, Shantou and the preparation period is 3 years. The campus construction will be conducted in two phases and the total land area is 623.45 mu. With a total investment about RMB 600 million, the first phase of the campus will break ground in September and cater to the needs of the school in the initial stage. The second phase, i.e., the main campus, will be completed in 2018. GTIIT plans to receive students in 2017 and the first three specialties for majors are environmental engineering, chemical engineering and material engineering.

　　4月9日，由汕头大学与世界知名大学以色列理工学院合作举办的广东以色列理工学院(筹)获得教育部批准。
　　广东以色列理工学院(筹)是一所具有独立法人资格的中外合作办学机构，英文名Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology(GTIIT)，位于汕头市大学路汕头大学校园东侧及南侧，筹设期为3年。学院校区建设用地分两期，共623.45亩，一期校区投资约6亿元，预计今年9月启动建设，建成后可满足广东以色列理工学院建校初期的使用;二期校区即主校区争取在2018年全面完成建设。广东以色列理工学院预计2017年开始招生，首先开设环境工程、化学工程和材料工程三个本科专业。
