On the afternoon of March 16, Shantou Port "Sea-Rail Intermodal Transportation" was officially launched. The 16 carriages of the first train were fully loaded with 32 containers, which would be delivered to Meizhou, Ganzhou and other places.
 

This project is co-operated by Guangzhou-Meizhou-Shantou Railway Company under Guangzhou Railway (Group) Corporationand Shantou Port Group Corp. . The incoming and outgoing goods of Shantou Port, which are from the ports all over China and even all over the world, are loaded into the train at Shantou Port, and will be directly delivered to Meizhou, Ganzhou and other inland areas through Guangzhou-Meizhou-Shantou Railway.  Thus,  Meizhou and Ganzhou become the land ports of Shantou Port. The official launching of Shantou Port "Sea-Rail Intermodal Transportation" provides the incoming and outgoing goods of the inland areas with a convenient access to the sea, reduces logistics costs, and extends the direct economic hinterland of Shantou Port and  promote the economic development of inland areas, which is conducive to the trade between Shantou and inland areas and will promote regional economic cooperation.

　　3月16日下午，汕头港“海铁联运”在珠池港区正式启动，首列班车16节车厢满载32个集装箱标箱发往梅州赣州等地。

　　该项目由广铁集团下属广梅汕铁路公司和汕头港务集团有限公司合作运营，全国各港口乃至世界各地通过汕头港进出的货物，在汕头港装上列车通过广梅汕铁路直接通往梅州、赣州等内陆地区，使梅州、赣州成为汕头港无水港。汕头港“海铁联运”的正式启动，为内陆地区货物进出提供了一条便捷的出海通道，降低了物流成本，在促进内陆地区经济发展的同时延伸了汕头港的直接经济腹地，有利于汕头市与内陆地区商贸往来，促进地区经济合作。
