As Shantou Railway Station will be connected with the Link Line of Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway, which is under construction, as well as Shanwei-Shantou Railway, Shantou Port Railway, intercity rail and urban rail transit, which are being planned, Shantou will transform and build new Shanwei-Shantou high-speed rail station by combining with the existing buildings of Shantou Railway Station, and take into a package of overall considerations on the reasonable layout of all kinds of traffic routes. Shantou plans to construct the east station building at Shantou Railway Station, for the purpose of forming a pattern of “one integrated station building” and “double squares” by integrating with the transformation of the existing station buildings, adapting to the seamless transfer of all kinds of vehicles of the future integrated transportation hub, and building a new high-speed rail hub station in east Guangdong.

　　随着在建的厦深铁路联络线以及规划中的汕(尾)汕(头)铁路、疏港铁路、城际轨道和城市轨道交通都将接入汕头站，我市结合火车站既有站房改造和新建汕汕高铁站，一揽子统筹考虑各种交通线路的合理布局，拟在汕头站建东站房，与既有站房的改造形成“一体化站房”和“双广场”的格局，适应未来综合交通枢纽的各种交通工具的无缝换乘，打造粤东高铁新的枢纽中心站。
