The sea area of Shantou is about 4,424 square kilometers, with a continental coastline of 217.7 kilometers. Nan＇ao County is the only island county in the Guangdong Province, with very rich marine resources. In 2013, State Oceanic Administration approved that Nan＇ao County was listed in the first batch of national "demonstration areas for the construction of marine ecological civilization". Since then, Shantou has taken this as an opportunity to penetrate theconstruction of marine ecological civilization into the fields of Shantou＇s marine undertakings and marine economic development. Up to now, Shantou has built eight marine nature reserves at national, municipal and county levels, and has restored and protected the comprehensive offshore and coastal ecological functions through the implementation of projects, which has promoted the development of the marine industries including the coastal tourism industry.

　　我市海域面积约4424平方公里，大陆海岸线长217.7公里，南澳县为全省唯一的海岛县，海洋资源极为丰富。自2013年国家海洋局批准南澳县为首批国家级“海洋生态文明建设示范区”以来，我市以此为契机，将海洋生态文明建设贯穿于全市海洋事业和海洋经济发展的各个领域。目前我市建立了涵盖国家、市、县3个级别的8个海洋自然保护区，并通过项目实施，恢复和保护近海、海岸综合生态功能，促进了滨海旅游业等海洋产业的发展。
