Shantou Railway Station Project involving raising platform 1 and related works started on May 16. The project will be divided into two stages and it is expected to be completed by the end of September this year. Affected by the construction, from May 15, the EMUs from Shantou to Shenzhen North Railway Station have been adjusted from 6.5 pairs per day to 3 pairs. The arrangement of EMU from Shantou to Guangzhou has remained unchanged, and the time for which some ordinary speed trains reach Shantou Railway Station as a destination has been partially adjusted.
According to the modification plan, platform 1 of Shantou Railway Station will be raised from the current 0.5 meter height to 1.25 meter to meet the requirements of EMU on getting on/off; and the No.1 track line will be rebuilt and electrified; hanging contact network is added to meet the requirements of EMU parking; temporary passenger passage canopy will be added to platform 1.The modification will also include creating an 8-meter-wide passenger bridge with a span of 28.6 meters between existing platform 1 and 2, and two escalators and two elevators will be added for each platform. After the completion of the modification, the station's transportation capacity will be upgraded. The existing EMU shifts will be added for the Shantou Railway Station, which will create conditions for the Trains leaving for Hong Kong and Fujian.

汕头火车站启动站台改造
汕头火车站一站台加高及相关工程5月16日启动,工程将分两个阶段进行,预计今年9月底完工。受施工影响,从5月15日开始,汕头站至深圳北站动车组从原来每天6.5对调整为3对,汕头至广州的动车组安排保持不变,个别普速列车终到汕头站时间进行局部调整。
根据改造方案,汕头火车站一站台将从现在的0.5米标高加高至1.25米,满足动车组乘降要求;并改建1号轨道线,增加电化挂网,满足动车停靠要求;同时在一站台增加临时旅客通道雨棚。本次改造还将在既有一、二号站台之间,新建一座宽度为8米、跨度约28.6米的旅客天桥,并且每个站台增设手扶电梯和垂直电梯各2部。改造完成后,车站运能将得到提升,为汕头站加密现有动车组班次,以及开通前往香港、福建方向的动车组创造条件。
