Shantou City has a total area of 2,199 sq. km., it had a permanent resident population of 5.7884 million at the end of 2022, including 5.5419 million with registered residence. The total sea area of the city is 4,332 sq. km, including 2,570 sq. km. of different marine function zones. Shantou City has jurisdiction over Nan'ao County and six districts, namely, Jinping, Longhu, Chenghai, Haojiang, Chaoyang and Chaonan.
